Duplicate listing

Identical copies of this role are live at the same time.

Ghostless records the day it first sees a posting, so a repost can't reset its age. This one was already up when Ghostless started tracking Amazon, so its true age is longer.

About the role

You will partner with software engineers and product managers to build and operate the high-availability, low-latency distributed systems that execute inventory transfer and crossdocking decisions across Amazon's fulfillment network. You will design and build scalable, fault-tolerant, transactional services where correctness and reliability are non-negotiable. The ideal candidate has a high sense of ownership, the ability to deliver end-to-end solutions, and a strong bar for operational excellence. This role will challenge you with problems of scale in distributed systems, high-throughput transaction processing, and building services that stay available and correct under continuous load. If you are excited by cloud computing, designing highly scalable and fault-tolerant systems, and being challenged by hard distributed-systems problems, then join us.

Key job responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced, results-oriented Software Development Engineer capable of building and operating scalable, reliable software for Amazon's inventory transfer systems. The ideal candidate will work with other engineers and product managers to deliver end-to-end solutions to complex business problems at a scale only available at Amazon. You will own the design, delivery, and operation of significant components of a Tier-1 service, raise the operational and design bar for the team, and help drive improvements to our architecture. Here you can take your skills to a new level as you work with modern distributed-systems technologies to deliver solutions that positively impact all Amazon customers.

About the team

Have you ever ordered a product on Amazon and, when that box with the smile arrived, wondered how it got to you so fast? If so, the Amazon Supply Chain Optimization organization (SCOT) is for you: http://bit.ly/amazon-scot. We are the Inbound Systems team within SCOT. Our services are the Tier-1, transactional backbone that executes inventory transfer and crossdocking decisions across Amazon's fulfillment network. When upstream planning systems decide inventory needs to move, we reliably carry out those decisions at scale. We obsess over availability, latency, correctness, and operational excellence, because the network depends on us. - 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language - 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Experience building and operating high-availability, Tier-1 distributed transactional systems with a strong operational-excellence and on-call track record.
