How we know

It hasn't been reposted, listed twice, or left up unusually long, and the posting doesn't say it's a talent pool.

Ghostless records the day it first sees a posting, so a repost can't reset its age. This one was already up when Ghostless started tracking Backbase, so its true age is longer.

Last checked Nov 4, 2026.

What the posting discloses

Not stated: Pay, real vacancy, AI screening.

Why these three

Ontario requires postings from employers with 25 or more staff to state the pay, whether the vacancy exists, and whether AI screens applicants.

Some employers add pay only on their own site. Check the original posting before you rule it out.

About the role

The Job in Short

At Backbase, we build secure, enterprise-grade digital banking software used every day by millions of people worldwide. As a Senior AI Applied Engineer with mobile depth, you will help design, build, and evolve the Backbase Mobile Platform and the product capabilities around it.

You bring deep expertise in Android. Using AI-assisted and agentic ways of working, you will contribute across mobile platforms and the wider product stack, including UI, delivery pipelines, testing, and documentation.

This role combines mobile craftsmanship with broad product ownership. We are looking for an engineer who can make sound platform-specific decisions, use agents to move effectively through unfamiliar technology, and remain accountable for the quality, security, and business outcome of everything they ship.

Meet the Job

You will join a multidisciplinary squad responsible for delivering end-to-end digital banking capabilities, from initial discovery and technical design to release, adoption, and production support. You will solve complex product and engineering problems that cross platform and system boundaries.

As a senior engineer, you will be a technical authority within your area of depth and a force multiplier for the wider team. You will shape architecture, review critical changes, mentor peers, lead complex investigations, and create reusable patterns and automation that improve how teams work.

AI agents are a normal part of your engineering workflow. You will use them to investigate codebases, compare implementation options, create prototypes, generate and maintain tests, diagnose failures, automate repetitive work, and deliver changes beyond your strongest platform. You will define clear constraints and success criteria, evaluate the evidence, and never treat generated output as inherently correct.

What you'll do

  • Design, build, test, and maintain complex mobile applications, frameworks, libraries, and SDK capabilities for Android.
  • Lead product features across the full software development lifecycle, from ambiguous requirements and architectural design through implementation, release, observability, and continuous improvement.
  • Use AI coding agents and automated workflows to accelerate delivery across iOS, Android, APIs, services, and CI/CD without lowering engineering standards.
  • Decompose complex work into bounded, verifiable tasks; equip agents with the right context and constraints; and critically review, test, and refine their output.
  • Contribute safely outside your primary area of depth by learning unfamiliar systems quickly, following local conventions, and seeking appropriate domain review.
  • Design maintainable architectures and clear APIs while balancing performance, accessibility, security, privacy, resilience, scalability, and cost.
  • Build modern native user experiences with SwiftUI and UIKit and/or Jetpack Compose and established Android view systems.
  • Apply platform concurrency models correctly and investigate difficult runtime, threading, memory, networking, and performance problems.
  • Establish strong quality feedback loops through automated tests, static analysis, observability, evaluation, and production signals.
  • Improve modularisation, build systems, CI/CD pipelines, release automation, developer tooling, and engineering documentation.
  • Lead technical design discussions, code reviews, root-cause analysis, incident learning, and significant refactoring initiatives.
  • Work closely with product managers, designers, architects, security specialists, and engineers across the stack to turn user needs into measurable product outcomes.
  • Mentor engineers and promote responsible AI use, transparent decision-making, disciplined experimentation, and continuous learning.

Who you are

  • You have 5–7+ years of professional software engineering experience building complex products and have operated effectively at senior level.
  • You have deep production expertise in at least one native mobile ecosystem: Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Android SDK and Jetpack libraries, Coroutines and Flow, Gradle, and the Android build and release lifecycle.
  • You have designed scalable mobile architectures using patterns such as MVI, MVVM, VIPER, Clean Architecture, or equivalent approaches.
  • You have experience building modular applications, reusable libraries, frameworks, or SDKs with stable and well-designed APIs.
  • You are strong in automated testing, debugging, profiling, CI/CD, release automation, and mobile non-functional requirements.
  • You have hands-on experience using AI coding assistants or agents in production software delivery and can show how they improved an outcome—not only how they generated code.
  • You understand the limitations and risks of agentic development, including incorrect output, missing context, insecure code, dependency risk, privacy, and over-automation, and you use verification and human review accordingly.
  • You are willing and able to work across both mobile platforms and adjacent systems. Existing depth in both iOS and Android is highly valued, but deep expertise in one plus evidence of effective cross-platform contribution is sufficient.
  • You turn ambiguous business problems into testable technical plans, anticipate cross-system impacts, and communicate trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • You take ownership of outcomes, support colleagues and customers when needed, and balance rapid delivery with long-term platform health.
  • You communicate effectively in English and work well in an international, multidisciplinary environment.

Bonus points

  • Strong production experience in both native iOS and native Android.
  • Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform, Compose Multiplatform, or another cross-platform mobile technology.
  • Experience building AI-enabled product capabilities using model APIs, retrieval, evaluation datasets, guardrails, observability, or human-in-the-loop workflows.
  • Experience with mobile security, accessibility, performance optimisation, SDK development, or enterprise application distribution.
  • Experience in banking, fintech, or another regulated environment.
  • Experience with cloud services, backend APIs, web applications, or data pipelines that support mobile products.

What We Offer

  • Growth: €1,000 annual self-development budget, a clear promotion path, and dedicated time for training.
  • Rewards: Competitive base salary plus an annual bonus and referral bonuses.
  • Hybrid Work: A flexible arrangement combining remote work with our vibrant Kraków office.
  • Office Perks: Daily lunches, community breakfasts on Wednesdays, and high-end hardware (MacBook).
  • Well-being: Private healthcare (Luxmed), Headspace app subscription, and a Work-From-Home allowance.
  • Culture: Integration events, flexible working hours, and a focus on healthy work-life balance.
