How we know

It hasn't been reposted, listed twice, or left up unusually long, and the posting doesn't say it's a talent pool.

Ghostless records the day it first sees a posting, so a repost can't reset its age. This one was already up when Ghostless started tracking Discernis, so its true age is longer.

Last checked Nov 4, 2026.

About the role

About Discernis

Discernis builds AI for legal discovery at a scale where general legal AI tools fall apart. When a litigation team needs to know what a group of people knew, and when, across millions of emails, chats, and documents, our platform finds it with the recall attorneys can stake a case on. We deploy in private cloud and fully air-gapped on-prem for AmLaw firms and corporate legal teams.

We're seed-stage and venture-funded, have paying Big Law customers, and have a pipeline of AmLaw firms and Fortune 500 companies lined up for paid pilots and future deals. Industry incumbents are coming to us to integrate. Discovery is our wedge: the bigger goal is helping enterprises understand and act on their largest, messiest datasets. We're a small team based in NYC, and you'd be joining before our next stage of growth.

How we work

We value ownership, curiosity, and shipping. We hire people who teach themselves new things, make good calls without much direction, and care about getting it right for the attorneys who depend on us. We work hard at a sustainable pace, without crunch culture or arbitrary deadlines.

The role

You'll be one of a handful of engineers building the product attorneys use every day. The work is broad: frontend and workflow UX, backend services, DevOps, and integrating our AI into real workflows. We care a lot about the frontend, because the best retrieval in the world doesn't matter if the attorney's experience is clunky.

Your first 60 days

  • Week 1: small, self-contained tickets to learn the codebase
  • Month 1: you own an epic
  • Month 2: it's in production, and customers are using it

You'll work directly with our Head of Engineering and our founder, both of whom will invest heavily in making you a strong engineer quickly.

Our stack

  • Backend: Python
  • Frontend: Vue.js
  • Data and search: PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch
  • Deployment: Kubernetes (K8s), private cloud, and air-gapped on-prem

What we're looking for

  • 0 to 3 years of experience and a strong CS foundation
  • You ship. You'd rather close five tickets well than plan one forever.
  • You design the solution first, then use AI tools to move faster, not to think for you.
  • You pick up new stacks on your own and take ownership without being asked.
  • When you apply, please include one link to something you've built.

Nice to have

  • A degree from a top CS program, or experience at FAANG or a high-growth startup
  • Frontend depth: you care how software feels to use
  • Projects that integrate LLMs into real workflows

Our process

  • A call with our founder
  • A technical deep dive with our Head of Engineering
  • Possibly an architecture session on a real first project

Why Discernis

  • Real scope early. You won't be pigeonholed into one corner of the codebase.
  • Hands-on experience inside a genuinely AI-native company
  • Equity with a 4-year vest and 1-year cliff
  • Health insurance
  • Unlimited PTO plus standard US holidays
