What the posting discloses

Not stated: Pay, real vacancy, AI screening.

Why these three

Ontario requires postings from employers with 25 or more staff to state the pay, whether the vacancy exists, and whether AI screens applicants.

Some employers add pay only on their own site. Check the original posting before you rule it out.

About the role

About Airwallex

Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.

We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,700 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles to see it in full.

How you'll make impact

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Business Accounts team, you’ll help build the intelligent orchestration layer for Airwallex’s business account ecosystem, connecting Cash, Yield, Lending, and broader Airwallex product surfaces into a unified financial experience for businesses. You’ll contribute to the architecture and long-term technical vision of backend systems, helping define engineering strategy and framework selection for the Yield squad.

You’ll own the end-to-end delivery of core investment workflows, including client signup, investment, and redemption, and build mission-critical financial infrastructure such as reconciliation controls, unit registries, and investment ledgers. You’ll write reliable, maintainable code and work with Product, Infrastructure, Design, and external investment providers to deliver robust integration rails, observability, and API experiences.

  • Shape the architecture and long-term technical vision of backend systems for the Yield squad.
  • Deliver core investment workflows end to end, including client signup, investment, and redemption.
  • Build financial infrastructure such as reconciliation controls, unit registries, and investment ledgers.
  • Improve reliability and maintainability through automated testing, observability, API design, and robust integration rails.
  • Partner with Product, Infrastructure, Design, and external investment providers to deliver seamless financial experiences for businesses.

You’ll work from our Sydney office on Monday, Thursday and Friday.

What we're looking for

Essentials

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree or above in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience solving distributed systems challenges, including scalability, consistency, and latency.
  • Strong backend engineering experience. Our current stack includes Kotlin, Vert.x, Temporal, and Kafka.
  • Experience with automated testing and quality control processes.
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as GCP or AWS, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience integrating observability tooling such as Splunk, New Relic, Prometheus, or Grafana.

Preferred

  • Experience in financial services, lending, payments, or credit products.
  • Experience building SaaS products offered as a platform.

You'll thrive here if

  • You're comfortable owning the roadmap yourself.
  • You're comfortable with ambiguity. Give you a problem, not a prescription, and you'll run with it.
  • You default to action. You'd rather course-correct in motion than wait for perfect clarity.
  • You say what you mean. You're direct, but you lead with respect.
  • You ask "why" before jumping to "how."

Learn more about your team

The Business Accounts team is where Cash, Yield, Lending, and the rest of our product suite come together into one unified financial experience for businesses. We're building the intelligent orchestration layer that lets customers move funds between transactional, yield-generating, and lending accounts, optimize liquidity, and respond dynamically to activity across payments, card spend, and collections. The challenge is that this connective layer doesn't exist yet: as our product suite grows, customers need it to feel programmable and automated, not like a patchwork of separate accounts. This is a brand-new team at an early stage, so you'll shape the technical foundations of a core platform from the ground up. If you want ownership building the product that sits at the center of Airwallex's business customer experience, this is where that work happens.
