How we know

It hasn't been reposted, listed twice, or left up unusually long, and the posting doesn't say it's a talent pool.

Ghostless records the day it first sees a posting, so a repost can't reset its age. This one was already up when Ghostless started tracking Broadcom, so its true age is longer.

Last checked Nov 4, 2026.

Job Description

Team Overview

Our Mainframe Infrastructure team is responsible for critical database systems and operations supporting multiple DB2 subsystems across our R&D organizations. We provide guidance, tooling, and infrastructure services to product development teams to accelerate delivery and ensure high availability. This is a senior software engineer position supporting enterprise systems and R&D development labs across multiple DB2 versions and mainframe environments.

Who You Are

We are looking for a technical specialist who bridges the gap between traditional DB2 z/OS System Programming and Database Administration (DBA). You have deep hands-on expertise in installing, upgrading, and tuning DB2 subsystems, managing large DB2 instance subsystems, and modernizing mainframe database operations using automation. You communicate clearly across hybrid teams—connecting mainframe operations, cloud architects, and agile software development engineers.

What You’ll Do

1. DB2 Systems Programming & Subsystems Administration

  • DB Instances Management & Upgrades: Perform end-to-end installation, maintenance, version upgrades, and patching for multiple DB2 instances across multiple R&D development labs environments.
  • Subsystem Configuration: Configure and tune DB2 subsystem parameters, buffer pools, and system storage for optimal throughput and reliability.
  • High Availability & Data Sharing: Design, manage, and maintain DB2 Data Sharing groups and high-availability configurations.
  • System Integration: Integrate DB2 with z/OS security frameworks (RACF/ACF2/Top Secret), network services, and mainframe OS components.

2. Database Administration (DBA) & Environment Support

  • Operations: Provide tier-3 DBA support and maintenance for critical databases and product portfolios.
  • Database Design & Utilities: Oversee physical and logical database design, execute routine DB2 utility management, and manage data access control.
  • SQL Optimization & Performance Tuning: Analyze application queries, optimize SQL performance, resolve locking/concurrency issues, and troubleshoot system bottlenecks.

3. Modernization & Automation

  • Automation & Scripting: Write, maintain, and enhance ansible playbooks, python scripts, and REXX programs to automate DB2 deployment, routine maintenance, and multiple subsystems management tasks.
  • CI/CD & API Integration: Integrate maintenance workflows into modern CI/CD pipelines using REST APIs and enterprise software development standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with global development, operations, and cloud architecture teams to support continuous product delivery and infrastructure stability.

What You Need

Technical Skills

  • DB2 z/OS Systems Programming: Deep background in installing, configuring, upgrading, and maintaining DB2 subsystems on z/OS.
  • DB2 DBA Expertise: Strong experience in physical/logical database design, DB2 utility management, SQL performance tuning, and access control.
  • Automation & Scripting: Proficiency with Ansible programming, Python, REXX, JCL, and REST APIs for mainframe automation.
  • High Availability & Storage: Hands-on experience with DB2 Data Sharing, backup/recovery strategies, disaster recovery, and storage integration.
  • Mainframe OS & Security: Thorough understanding of z/OS concepts, JCL, security integration, and mainframe operations.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of related experience, or Master’s degree with 6+ years of related experience, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Prior experience managing multi tenant databases and multi-instance R&D sub systems in an enterprise environment.

Location Requirements

Must be located in the US Broadcom site - Plano, TX, Pittsburgh, PA, or Lisle, IL.
