How we know

It hasn't been reposted, listed twice, or left up unusually long, and the posting doesn't say it's a talent pool.

Ghostless records the day it first sees a posting, so a repost can't reset its age.

Last checked Nov 4, 2026.

About the role

Are you seeking an environment where you can apply state-of-the-art computer science techniques, work with latest tools and technologies, and use huge amounts of data to solve real-world problems and make a massive impact? Come and join us in the Outbound group within Amazon Fulfillment Technologies!

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies builds software, hardware, and processes that help tens of thousands of employees deliver billions of items a year from over eighty warehouses worldwide. We ensure that you get what you want when we promised it to you. We are at the core of Amazon's business and our software is mission-critical.

The Outbound Execution group, based in Toronto, creates the software that makes it easy for Amazon staff to safely, quickly and accurately perform the most labour-intensive warehouse function: picking the items for your order. We deal with real physical processes, and our systems need to make decisions within real-time constraints. At our scale, a small optimization can instantly help thousands of staff and save Amazon millions of dollars: savings we can pass on to our customers to keep our prices low. We also have the opportunity to work with the most advanced technologies: AWS, robotics, machine learning, and augmented reality among others.

As a software engineer at Amazon, you're responsible for much more than just writing robust, reliable, scalable and readable code. You will operate a platform where any downtime costs millions. You will work directly with the users of your software, to deeply understand the domain and identify opportunities for improvements and optimizations. We are looking for true engineers that find practical technology solutions to real problems.

Key job responsibilities

You will own the design and operation of the high-scale services that optimize and plan picking work across Amazon's fulfillment network. In this role you will

  • Own end-to-end delivery of distributed services on AWS that produce optimization plans under real-time constraints, from design through multi-region rollout and worldwide operations.
  • Build and tune the optimization logic behind those plans, and prove each change out with controlled experiments against live network traffic before it goes broad.
  • Make design, interface, and data-model decisions for the systems you own, weighing scale, correctness, and ownership boundaries with partner teams.
  • Raise the operational excellence bar for your services: monitoring, alarming, on-call, and reducing systemic toil.
  • Navigate ambiguity to scope and sequence work, influence technical direction, and unblock dependencies across teams.

About the team

Our team in Toronto works on a hard, real-world problem: how to plan picking work in Amazon's fulfillment centers so it gets done efficiently and on time for customers. Our optimization systems group customer orders into pick batches that reduce walking, prioritize that work for the associates who pick it, and re-plan when conditions change. We are building toward a platform where new optimization ideas can be tested and launched quickly. You'll work closely with the engineers on the team, with partner engineering teams, and with people in operations who rely on what we build. As a team we own our services end to end, from design through production, and every engineer here gets real ownership of the problems they take on. If you want your code to change how work gets done in a fulfillment center, you'll fit right in. - 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language - 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
